Job description

37 hours per week – 12 months - Secondment

Band 8 - £40,777 - £46,142 (depending upon experience)

We are pleased to share a secondment opportunity within the Planning Policy team, available for a period of up to 12 months. This is an excellent chance for colleagues who are looking to broaden their experience, gain a deeper understanding of planning and influence the future of the district

As many of you will know, the Council has now agreed to progress a new Local Plan under the latest legislation. This is a significant and exciting milestone for us and the work ahead will play a crucial role in shaping how our communities grow and develop over the coming years. The Planning Policy team will be at the centre of this work, and the secondment offers a unique opportunity to be directly involved in the early stages of this important process.

-       During the secondment, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to:

-       Build a strong working knowledge of planning policy, legislation and national guidance

-       Support the development of key policy documents, including research, evidence gathering, and drafting

-       Contribute to the preparation of the new Local Plan and associated projects

-       Work collaboratively with colleagues across the Council, external partners, and stakeholders

-       Strengthen skills in analysis, communication, report writing, and problem-solving.

You do not need previous experience in Planning Policy, as there are many experience and skills that are transferable to the role. Full support and guidance will be provided throughout the secondment.

Those wishing to be considered will need to provide a short expression of interest. This should outline your reasons for applying, what interests you about the role and any relevant skills or experience you feel you could bring to the team. This does not need to be lengthy, but it should give a clear sense of your motivation and suitability.
