Fenland District Council is an award-winning progressive organisation, set in the heart of a scenic and rural landscape in north Cambridgeshire with wide open spaces and skylines.
Our head office, Fenland Hall, is located in the town of March. We also have sites in Chatteris, Whittlesey and Wisbech.
Fenland Hall is just a few steps from March train station, which has direct links to destinations including Birmingham New Street, Cambridge, Peterborough, Norwich, Liverpool and Ipswich as well as our other Fenland stations in Manea and Whittlesea. Our rail links provide easy connecting services to London stations.
Our one-team culture
We are an ambitious and forward thinking local authority; continually striving to identify and implement improved ways of working.
Our strong 'One Team' ethos and positive 'can do' culture underpins everything we do. This organisational culture promotes flexibility, mutual support, high performance and staff reward and recognition. This translates as the whole of the organisation seeing themselves as working for the community, rather than for a 'department'. It’s one of the reasons why we retain a happy and motivated workforce.
Our values
We live and operate by our values, which are:
Value, respect and dignity for all
Adopt a positive one team approach
Listen, talk and take action
Understand, learn and improve
Encourage, enable and support
Service excellence
It is very important for us to attract and retain staff with the right skills and values. We empower our workforce to go that extra mile in delivering important services for local people.
This approach also enables us to continually deliver the best possible outcomes for our residents.

Mental Health Awareness
As part of our ongoing commitment to staff wellbeing, many individuals in our teams are trained mental health first aiders. They are able to provide confidential support to colleagues relating to mental health issues.
Our mental health first aiders cover all of our sites. As well as providing continued support, they deliver campaigns and fundraising activities to embed mental health awareness across the Council.
Disability Confident
We are a Disability Confident employer. The scheme demonstrates our commitment to positive action to ensure disabled people are treated fairly and have access to the same opportunities as non-disabled people. We welcome applications from disabled people and are positive about everyone’s abilities.
Being a Disability Confident employer also shows existing employees that we value their contribution and will treat them fairly if they become disabled. Where possible we will retain the services of an employee who is, or becomes disabled and provide retraining and redeployment where necessary. Disabled employees will be given equal opportunities with other employees for training, career development and promotion.
Equal Opportunities
Fenland District Council is committed to equal opportunities and to ensuring we do not unfairly discriminate for any reason.
We’re committed to not discriminating due to characteristics including, but not limited to:

We are committed to helping those who are disadvantaged and to reducing inequality within the resources available to us. We will ensure that we are a fair and equal employer at all times.
We are committed to ensuring that we provide equality of opportunity to all in employment. The aim is to ensure that we do not unfairly discriminate against any job applicant or employee for any reason.
We will ensure equal access and opportunity to good quality services designed to meet the needs of all of those in the community without prejudice or discrimination.
