Fenland District Council is offering an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our Environmental Health team as an Apprentice or Trainee Environmental Health Officer.

 

This is a fantastic opportunity to gain a fully funded Level 6 Environmental Health Practitioner degree (apprenticeship route) or complete your studies while gaining invaluable hands on experience across a broad range of environmental health functions.

 

About the Role

Working under the guidance of experienced Environmental Health Officers, you will:

  • Undertake an accredited university programme leading to a recognised environmental health qualification
  • Support a wide range of environmental health activities including inspections, investigations, and enforcement work
  • Respond to customer enquiries and provide advice to residents and businesses
  • Assist in the investigation of statutory breaches, including evidence gathering and case preparation
  • Promote high standards by providing guidance and support to local businesses
  • Contribute to service improvements, corporate priorities, and the Council’s “One Team” approach
  • Develop the knowledge and competencies required to become a qualified and registered Environmental Health Practitioner

You’ll gain experience across multiple areas of environmental health, working on cases ranging from routine inspections to more complex investigations, depending on your developing skills and competence.

 

About You

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Passionate about public health, safety, and environmental protection
  • A strong communicator, able to engage confidently with a wide range of people
  • Organised, with the ability to manage your workload and study commitments
  • Customer-focused, with a friendly and professional approach
  • A proactive team player who is keen to learn and develop

You will also have:

  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in English, Maths and a Science
  • The ability to work towards (or currently be enrolled on) a degree in Environmental Health
  • Good IT skills and the ability to maintain accurate records
  • A commitment to excellent customer service and equality principles
  • A full UK driving licence and the ability to travel across the district
